Document · New Puppy
A sequenced first-month playbook covering two weeks before pickup, the day before, first 24 hours home, week 1, and weeks 2 through 4. Most new puppy checklists are unsequenced item lists; this one is built around the order things actually need to happen.
About this document
The first 30 days with a new puppy are the most consequential and the most chaotic. Crate. Food. Vet. Training. Socialization. Sleep schedule. House training. Meanwhile the puppy is figuring out the household and the household is figuring out the puppy. Most new owners try to remember it all from memory and end up forgetting key prep, missing critical first-week routines, or scrambling at the wrong moments.
The New Puppy Checklist is the sequenced playbook.
What this document does:
It walks the owner through five phases of the first 30 days, in order, with specific items to complete in each phase. The phases are: two weeks before pickup, the day before pickup, pickup day and the first 24 hours home, week 1, and weeks 2 through 4. Each phase has 7 to 12 items, sized so a household can realistically execute them at the pace of the phase.
The checklist closes with a first-month journal field where the owner can capture surprises, reactions, fears, and things the puppy is learning. Most owners cannot recall those details after the fact, and the journal becomes a record they reference at the 6-month and 1-year marks.
What is included:
Format and how it works:
Print version and Digital version, both as Word .docx and PDF. The Digital PDF has true AcroForm checkbox fields that click to check in any modern PDF reader, plus a fillable journal field at the bottom. Most households print the checklist before pickup and share it with everyone in the home, then transition to the Digital version once the puppy arrives so the same checklist can be shared via phone.
Why this version is different:
Most new puppy checklists on the internet are bare item lists with no sequence. Buy this. Buy that. Read this article. The actual hard part is timing: knowing when to do which thing so the puppy lands in a household that is already ready. This checklist is sequenced. The 11 items in the two-weeks-before section are deliberately placed before the 9 items in the first-24-hours section because the first 24 hours go better when the prep is done.
The checklist is also realistic about household capacity. There is no expectation of an 80-item perfect first month. There is an expectation that a household executes the items at the rhythm of the phase, and that anything missed in the prep weeks gets caught in week 1.
Who this is for:
For new puppy owners about to bring home their first puppy, or any new dog. For experienced owners adding a second or third dog who want a system rather than improvising. For working breeders who want to send a structured first-month plan home with every placement as part of the go-home packet. Pairs naturally with the Socialization Checklist (parallel coverage of the critical socialization window) and the House Training Tracker (daily potty logging during the same first month).

Common questions
The contracts were drafted with an attorney and pressure-tested across multiple working programs, but they are templates — not a substitute for a lawyer for your specific state's laws. Each file ships with a clear note about that. Most breeders use them as a starting point and have a local attorney review for state-specific edits.
DOCX + PDF. The DOCX opens in Word, Google Docs, Pages, or LibreOffice. The PDF is fill-on-screen or print-and-fill. Everything is editable.
When I ship a new version of this document, the new file lands in your inbox. Laws shift. A state adds a registry requirement. A working breeder tells me something that belongs in the document. The next version goes out to everyone who bought the previous one. No upsell, no annual subscription.
14-day no-questions-asked refund. If the documentdoesn't fit your operation, you get your money back and I'd genuinely like to hear why so the next version is better.
