Shed Log

Sheds are one of the most reliable husbandry signals a gecko gives the keeper. The frequency, completeness, and pattern of sheds tell you whether humidity, diet, and hydration are dialed in. Stuck shed is usually a humidity problem. Slowed shed frequency in juveniles is usually a growth problem. The Shed Log makes the pattern legible.

The keeper logs every shed event with date, days since last, completeness, and problem zones. Over time the log shows whether the enclosure humidity is actually working or whether the keeper is fighting recurring stuck sheds despite "correct" hygrometer readings.

What the document does:

It records shed events in a 14-row table with six columns (shed date, days since last, complete, stuck zones, humidity at time, notes). The expected frequency section gives species-specific cadence by life stage. The common stuck zones section breaks out toes, eye caps, tail tip, and body patches by urgency, with the home protocol for each and the threshold where stuck shed becomes a vet visit.
